RONNY'S TOP 99 ARTHOUSE FILMS

I have been working hard on a list of my favorite arthouse films, and I can finally say that it's finished. This is probably the hardest I've worked on anything for the site, but that doesn't say much does it?

I've tried to write a good but short description for each film - it's just too much work to write a full review for each of these so bare with me. There are some fascinating films in this list and sometimes words just doesn't do it, at least not with my limited vocabulary, so don't judge them solely on what I have to say.

I present to you my 99 (why 99? Because I can't think of anything specific that is great about that number, until now!) favorite arthouse films in the actual correct order!

Invisible Adversaries

A female artist becomes obsessed with something she heard about on the radio, that there is an alien invasion upon us. People are being taken over by something called Hyksos. At the same time she struggles with her personal problems such as her relationships and her art.

Deadwood Park
Horror

Jake returns to Eidolon Crossing where he lived when he was younger. It's also where a child murderer killed his brother. But the town is just a shell of what it once was. The popular amusement park Dogwood Park is dead and no one ever moves into town, only out of town. Jake is staying at his parents' old house, which is a wreck now, and starts seeing strange things at night. The dead children seem to be haunting him, so he and a local girl starts investigating if the right guy was ever caught.

John returns to his home town with a group of friends and his girlfriend for a good ol' pig hunt. When there they stumble upon his old friends who are less than happy about his transformation into a city boy and give them a hard time about it, but keep it nice enough so they can follow them out on the pig hunt. That's where things go wrong after they get into a fight with each other. Things aren't looking any better when there's also a huge fucking boar nearby.

Don't Let Him In

A murderer is loose in the woods and two couples have decided to spend a weekend in a nearby cabin. After the arrival of a wounded stranger they understand that maybe what the cop told them about a killer in the woods isn't so far fetched after all. But who is it? Is it the stranger, or is it someone they know?

Popatopolis

Jim Wynorski is getting ready to make is latest softcore venture with "The Witches of Breastwick" but he's looking to make an experiment out of the production. He wants to shoot the movie in three days, with only a sound guy and a camera man, one light and all actors and actresses have to provide their own food, hair and makeup. "Popatopolis" follows Jim on his experiment while also examining the career of one of the more prolific b-movie directors.

The date is 31 December 1999 and the Haskin's family are taking a trip to the woods where they'll spend time away from the Y2K hysteria of the city. But the woods they chose to spend New Years Eve at is the home of a sleazy hillbilly family looking for a wife for one of the sons. And the woods also happens to be the exact place where the Millennium Bug will rise - a huge creature that reaches maturity after 1000 years and crawls up to the ground to give birth to another bug.

Tricking the school boards that you are a possessed by a demon is a bad idea, and this is something a group of girls find out when they're caught. Their little prank leads to them having to spend three nights in school and having to clean it while they're there. But they stumble upon something in the woods, a strange pile of dirt, and a letter. They read the letter and accidently unleash a demon who will kill them off one by one.

Perkins' 14
Horror

10 years after the first disappearing in Stone Cove, a cop thinks he has found the kidnapper. In total 14 kids were kidnapped, and the cop's son was one of them. He starts to investigate it and realize he was very right, this man is guilty, but what he did to the kids is far worse than any of them ever could have thought. But one positive thing is that most of them are still alive. Or maybe that's the least positive thing?

Through a video camera we get to follow the Poe family after having moved into a new house. The mother, a psychologist, has bought a video camera to document some of her cases but the father, a priest, uses it mostly for his own amusement. He films Halloween, Thanksgiving and such events. The kids in the house start to act stranger and stranger for every holiday and occasion.
